HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – An already impressive list of accolades continues to grow for Alabama A&M graduate quarterback
Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) as he has been selected as the first participant in the inaugural HBCU Legacy Bowl, marking him as one of the top players at the Historically Black College and University level.
Designed to showcase the tremendous talent at the HBCU level, the postseason all-star game will feature the top 100 National Football League (NFL) draft-eligible players from those schools. Set to be played on February 19, 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the game will be aired live on NFL Network and will cap a week-long celebration of black culture and history.
Glass has already established himself as one of the top players in the country and this tremendous honor, along with the numerous others he has earned, affirms that. Included among those are being named to the Deacon Jones Award Watch List a season after winning it as the Black College Football National Player of the Year.
He has also been selected to the Walter Payton Award Watch List representing the top player at the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and the watch lists for the Reese's Senior Bowl and College Football Performance Awards (CFPA), respectively. Additionally, he is a BOXTOROW Preseason All-American and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Player of the Year.
This comes following a season in which he led A&M to the first HBCU National Championship in program history, the first undefeated season since 1966 and first SWAC Championship in 15 years, all while racking up a bevy of individual honors.
Glass and Alabama A&M are set to begin defense of their HBCU National Championship and SWAC title when they kick off the season under the lights at Louis Crews Stadium on September 4 against South Carolina State.
