HUNTSVILLE, Ala - In a continuing effort to help fuel Bulldog student-athlete academic success, the Alabama A&M Athletics Department has announced
Jason Etheridge as an academic advisor on January 16.
"I'm beyond excited to welcome
Jason Etheridge to the Academic Enhancement team," said Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator
Ka'Lisa Stanfield. "His passion for education and love for Alabama A&M University makes me excited for where our team is going. Mr. Etheridge is eager to get to work, bringing new ideas and suggestions to the table. He is a perfect fit for our area."
A proud alumni of the University, Etheridge returns to The Hill, bringing with him six years of academic enhancement experience alongside teaching and advising high school and college students. Most recently he served as a student academic advisor and dealt with leading university projects at North Carolina Central University from 2018-21. While there his role included being responsible for providing academic counseling to 200 freshmen, all while achieving a 95-percent Fall-to-Spring retention rate.Â
Â
Etheridge also created and led weekly intellectual study hall for freshman and sophomore students and oversaw both the college's website redesign and their social media platforms. He also used his knowledge in the classroom teaching freshman seminar classes for education majors.
Â
Prior to his time at NCCU he was the head of learning support at Nibras International School in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 2016-18. In this position Etheridge implemented and created a seven-year master schedule to improve students learning abilities and offered crucial advising with students and parents.
Â
He also collaborated to bring new classes that were not previously offered such as AP Biology, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, Statistics, Math Support, SAT/TOEFL, Creative Writing, 3D Printing, Robotics and Coding.
Â
With a background in higher education, Etheridge also used external relations to collaborate on projects that would inspire and engage students to gain knowledge on future jobs not traditionally held by minorities.
Â
Some of those included working with Mercer University's Outreach program to conduct traffic jam and entrepreneurship student-led classes as well as creating lectures for students to learn from an African American pilot and underwater explorers.
Â
Etheridge holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Management from Alabama A&M earned in 2006 as well as a Masters in Professional School Counseling from Cambridge College awarded in 2011. He is also currently pursuing his Doctorate of Education from East Carolina University.
Â
"I am proud to return back to where it all began for me," said Etheridge. "I look forward to illustrating to our students that when you start here, you can, indeed, go anywhere."
Â
Etheridge will be directly responsible for providing academic advising for AAMU's men's golf, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball programs.
