AAMU student-athletes enjoy success Fall Semester in classroom

HUNTSVILLE — The Alabama A&M Department of Athletics enjoyed a successful 2019 Fall Semester in the classroom.

During the 2019 Fall Semester, Alabama A&M's student-athletes posted an average 3.02 Grade-Point Average (GPA) for the term while maintaining an average 3.08 overall cumulative GPA.

The Alabama A&M Department of Athletics has more than 300 student-athletes and fields teams in 16 NCAA Division-I sanctioned sports.
Sixty percent of the university's student-athletes has a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

"We're very proud of the hard work and commitment to academic excellence in the classroom by our student-athletes," Alabama A&M Director of Athletics Bryan Hicks said. "Our staff, coaches and administration have worked hard to ensure our student-athletes are provided with the proper support for academic success."

During the Fall Semester, 34 Alabama A&M student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA while 21 student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.0 overall GPA. An impressive 199 student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the term while maintaining an overall cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Seven Alabama A&M teams (Baseball, Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis, Women's Bowling, Women's Soccer and Women's Volleyball) posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the term. Ten teams (Baseball, Men's Tennis, Men's Track and Field, Women's Basketball, Women's Bowling, Softball, Women's Tennis, Women's Track and Field, and Women's Volleyball) have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

All Alabama A&M teams have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes' performance in the classroom," Alabama A&M Associate Athletic Director of Academics Kenyatta Walker said. "Our student-athletes have demonstrated their dedication to the 'student' side of being a student-athlete. 

"This success is paramount to our long-term commitment as a department to the success of our student-athletes."
