BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M senior forward
Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) netted her fourth Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball weekly award of the 2021-22 campaign, earning Player of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday, January 25.
Lewis dominated the competition in a pair of road victories this past week, averaging an incredible 26.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
She opened the week with one of the best performances of the season as she put up 26 points and hauled in a season-high 18 boards to go with three blocks, two steals and a pair of assists. That outing came at Texas Southern (1/22) and helped fuel a 71-67 come-from-behind victory over the Tigers that also snapped a three-game losing streak.
Lewis would help the Bulldogs continue those winning ways two days later at Prairie View (1/24) with 27 points and 10 rebounds. On the night she would go 8-of-11 from the field and 8-of-10 at the foul line while adding a block, steal and assist in 33 minutes of action. She would also score her 1,000th career point since joining A&M three seasons ago.
On the year she is averaging 13.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and just under a steal and assist a game while shooting .478 (87-of-182) from the field. Additionally, her rebound and block averages both rank second in the SWAC.
Lewis previously earned Player of the Week on January 5 and was the league's Impact Player of the Week on December 15 and 23, joining senior guard
Deshawna Harper (Indianapolis, Ind.) who collected the first honor on November 24. Graduate guard
Nigeria Jones (Lincoln, Neb.) makes for six league recognitions this season as she was named Player of Week on December 15.
Lewis and the Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, January 29 when Florida A&M visits Elmore Gymnasium. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
