BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior linebacker
Dre Terry (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) became the first Alabama A&M player to be named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Defensive Player of the Week since 2018 as announced by that organization on Monday, October 17.
Terry was a game-changer in Alabama A&M's 34-31 road victory at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (10/16) this past week as he erupted for 14 tackles and a 31-yard interception.
That pick would come with the Bulldogs having just retaken the lead at 17-14 at the start of the second quarter and squelched the Golden Lions' ensuing drive. It also set up A&M with an opportunity to extend their lead on their next drive as they pushed to a 24-14 advantage a minute and a half later.
Both honors are the first of his career as a Bulldog and he joins sophomore running back
Donovan Eaglin (Houston, Texas) as SWAC weekly honorees this year. The latter was named Offensive Player of the Week on October 3. He becomes the first individual to earn Defensive Player of the Week for the program since Yurik Bethune did so twice in 2018, the last on November 19 of that season.
Terry and the Bulldogs are now off until the 81
st Magic City Classic against Alabama State on Saturday, October 29. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.
