HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M women's volleyball (4-19, 3-4 SWAC) begins the stretch run of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action in a big way as they head three hours south to take on rival Alabama State (9-13, 6-1 SWAC) on Thursday, October 20. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Bulldogs come into the contest having dropped their last three, falling 3-2 to both Grambling (10/9) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (10/10) at the SWAC Round Up and 3-0 at Chattanooga (10/16). The Hornets, meanwhile, have won their last three, defeating Texas Southern (3-1 on 10/9), Alcorn State (3-0 on 10/9) and Southern (3-1 on 10/10). They were slated to take on Alabama on October 14 but that match was cancelled due to illness with the ASU program.
A good rivalry is generally bred from proximity and success by both teams and that is exactly what the series history between these two teams has. Alabama State leads the series, which dates back to at least October 11, 2005, by a
narrow 18-17 margin. The Bulldogs hold the longest win streak in series history with 14 straight from that first meeting through November 6, 2012 while ASU's longest is six consecutive from November 6, 2015 through November 2, 2017.
