HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The long and winding road that is the regular season comes to a close as Alabama A&M (4-10-2, 2-4-2 SWAC) heads to Montgomery, Alabama to take on rival Alabama State (5-7-4, 3-2-3 SWAC) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) finale for both teams on Friday, October 28. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs sit in the eighth and final transfer spot for the 2022 SWAC Tournament and lines up with a first round matchup with regular season champion Jackson State while ASU currently sits in sixth. A&M comes in off of a 1-0 loss to Alcorn State on Sunday, October 23 and the Hornets barely escaped Mississippi Valley State with a narrow 1-0 victory that same day.
Alabama State holds
a 10-7 advantage in the all-time series, dating back to the first meeting on October 28, 2005. It has been a series of runs as A&M dominated the first five meetings, winning those by a combined score of 39-1. The next nine, however, would go the Hornets' way by a 34-8 margin, a stretch spanning from October 8, 2010 through October 25, 2018. Since that stretch, Alabama A&M has taken two of the last three, winning 2-1 on November 1, 2019 and 1-0 on October 29, 2021 with a 2-1 loss in Montgomery on April 2, 2021.
