Alabama A&M Women's Soccer Set To Take On Regular Season Champion Jackson State in SWAC Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 8 Seed Alabama A&M (4-11-2, 2-5-2 SWAC) faces a tall order as they begin the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament (SWAC) facing regular season champion and No. 1 Seed Jackson State (8-7-1, 7-1-1 SWAC) on Thursday, November 3. Game time is set for 10 a.m. in Prairie View, Texas with the winner advancing to face either No. 4 Seed Alabama State or No. 5 Texas Southern.

It will be a match up of two of the top defensive teams in the league as JSU leads with a 1.19 goals against average while the Bulldogs sit in third at 1.35. Both clubs are dependent upon their defense as all eight wins by the Tigers came by shutout while A&M took three of their four by clean sheets.

Alabama A&M comes into the tournament winless in their last four, having fallen to Jackson (2-0 on 10/16), tied Mississippi Valley State (0-0 on 10/21) and dropped decisions to Alcorn State (1-0 on 10/23) and at Alabama State (3-1 on 10/28). The Tigers, meanwhile, have been a wrecking ball, putting together an eight-game undefeated streak from the start of league play until suffering a 1-0 loss at Southern (10/28) to close the regular season.

Following that 2-0 loss in Jackson, Mississippi, A&M trails the all-time series 8-12-2 after having opened with four straight victories and back-to-back ties from October 5, 2003 through October 28, 2007. From there, however, the Tigers picked up most of their wins, taking the next five as part of a 9-1 stretch from October 26, 2008 through October 14, 2016.

Four of the next five meetings would then be one goal margins as the Bulldogs claimed back-to-back 2-1 victories, JSU one of their own and a A&M took home a 1-0 decision in last year's meeting on October 24, 2021.
