BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M graduate guard
Nigeria Jones (Lincoln, Neb.) collected her second Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball weekly award of the 2021-22 campaign as she has been named Impact Player of the Week as announced by the league on Wednesday, March 2.
Jones delivered a command performance for the Bulldogs in the biggest game of the year – a 76-68 victory over archrival Alabama State (2/26) that propelled them to second place in the SWAC.
It would be her lone opportunity on the week but she would make it count, registering a career-high 35 points on 13-of-26 shooting from the field. She would also add a pair of assists and a steal in 39 minutes of work. She also knocked down three triples and went 6-of-7 from the foul line.
Additionally, she was named BOXTOROW National Player of the Week for her efforts from February 21-27.
On the year she is averaging 15.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game and is currently tied for fifth in the SWAC in assists per game and is 10th in scoring.
Jones brings home the seventh weekly honor for A&M this season, having been named Player of the Week on December 15. In addition to her recognitions, senior forward
Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) was named Player of the Week on January 5 and 25 as well as Impact on December 15 and 23. Senior guard
Deshawna Harper (Indianapolis, Ind.) collected the first Impact honor on November 24.
Jones and the Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday, March 3 when Grambling visits Elmore Gymnasium. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
