HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (3-13, 2-3 SWAC) men's tennis will enter the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 6 seed Mississippi Valley (0-14, 0-5 SWAC) in quarterfinal action at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at the Pepsi Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
AAMU earned the No. 4 seed as they finished 2-3 in the regular season. They are coming off of a 5-2 victory over Tennessee State after falling in eight straight matches, half of those were against non-conference foes including No. 18 Middle Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Troy. MVSU dropped a 6-0 decision at Alcorn (4/9) in their latest matchup pushing their losing streak to 14.
The teams last met on Thursday, March 10 and the Bulldogs delivered a 7-0 decision. Overall AAMU leads the series 14-1 dating back to February 26, 2006 where they won 7-0 in Montgomery, Alabama. The winner of that match will advance to the semifinals to take on the No. 1 seed Alabama State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. The 2022 SWAC Championship match will then take place at 1 a.m. on Sunday, April 24.
