Alabama A&M Women’s Soccer Picked Third In SWAC Preseason Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off of a Fall 2021 season that saw Alabama A&M women's soccer deliver a historic season, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has released its Fall 2022 Preseason Poll.

The Bulldogs have been picked to finish third behind tournament runner-up Grambling (138/two First Place Votes) and defending champion Prairie View (132 Points/1 Vote). They garnered 129 points with three first place votes with Alabama State (127/1) and Jackson State (124) rounding out the top five.

The back half of the poll consists of Southern (96/2), Texas Southern (84), Alcorn State (73/2), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (51) and Mississippi Valley State (38).

A&M returns nearly the full squad from the previous fall, including all three All-SWAC honorees, each of whom has garnered preseason honors this week. They include forward Makayla Rushing (Red Oak, Texas) and junior defender Taylor Watson (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) who both earned First-Team honors. Sherice Clarke (St.Catherine, Jamaica) was named to the All-SWAC Second-Team alongside junior forward Jameela Barrett (London, England) and senior defender Tateyana Pitter (Kingston, Jamaica).

Alabama A&M will put those expectations right away as they open the season against Charleston on Thursday, August 18 in Charleston, South Carolina.
