HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Following a challenging non-conference slate, Alabama A&M (2-6, 0-0 SWAC) jumps into Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play as they begin a swing through the Lone Star State at defending tournament champion Prairie View (0-4, 0-0) on Friday, September 23. Kickoff is set for under the lights at 7 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
The Bulldogs come in having played impressive defense but riding a five-game losing streak. In that time they have allowed just seven goals, including three one goal efforts. Most recently they fell 2-0 with a late score at UT-Martin (9/18).
PVAMU enters play with just four games under their belt, just half of what A&M has seen. After seeing their opener cancelled they went eight days before falling to Stephen F. Austin (8/26) by a 3-0 score and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8/28) by an 8-1 margin. They would then go 12 days without a game, dropping a 5-0 decision at Abilene Christian on September 9 and followed that up with a 5-1 loss at Louisiana Monroe six days later.
You cannot get any closer in terms of series history as the clubs are
deadlocked at 6-6-1 dating back to the first meeting on November 7, 2003. That 7-0 victory for the Bulldogs would be the first of three straight in which they scored seven goals through October 15, 2006. Most recently the Panthers have taken four of the last five, including three straight shutouts from 2017-19. A&M earned a 1-0 victory in Prairie View on March 28, 2021 in the spring campaign while PVAMU escaped with a narrow 3-2 decision in Huntsville on October 1, 2021.
