MOBILE, Ala. – The Alabama A&M women's basketball (6-9, 3-1 SWAC) will prepare for the first iteration of the rivalry of the season on Monday, as they face Alabama State in Mobile as part of the Bridge Builder Classic on Martin Luther King Jr. Day inside the Mitchell Center.
 
The classic also features two high school basketball games prior to the college contest, a halftime battle of the bands and a live performance included in the festivities. It is also the first of a six-year deal to host one Alabama A&M and Alabama State rivalry game per year.

The Bulldogs started 3-0 in SWAC play with wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Mississippi Valley State, and Alcorn State before dropping the last matchup against Jackson State on January 9. They are also looking to win their second straight game as the home team against the Hornets and hold a 4-2 record over the last six meetings of the series.

Alabama State (6-9, 3-1 SWAC) comes into the meeting with SWAC wins over the same three conference opponents, with scores of 76-65 against Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 2), 72-63 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 4), and 93-91 over Alcorn State on the road (Jan. 9), while falling to Jackson State (Jan. 7) by a score of 90-48.
