Bulldogs Set to Open Season at UAB

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team begins its 2023-24 campaign on Monday as the Bulldogs visit UAB for an afternoon matinee at Bartow Arena. Tip-off against the Blazers is set for 2 p.m.

"I am so excited to kick off the season with UAB," Alabama A&M women's basketball head coach Margaret Richards said. "This is going to be a great test for us because this team is well coached and can shoot the ball really well. Our young ladies are excited for the challenge and have been preparing and competing in practice. We have to be disciplined, communicate on both ends, play as a team, and be locked in!"

Alabama A&M, which went 14-15 overall last season and 12-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, reached the conference tournament quarterfinals, falling 62-55 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  The Bulldogs were selected fourth in the conference's preseason predicted order of finish.

Amiah Simmons returns for her junior season after posting 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last year. Taylor Smith, Jayla Cody and Darian Burgin also return in helping provide veteran leadership to coach Richards' team.

After Monday's visit to Birmingham, Alabama A&M visits Colorado State on Thursday, before playing two straight games at the Event Center. The Bulldogs' home opener is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 against Tennessee Tech, followed three days later with a 5 p.m. contest against UAH.

Alabama A&M visits Auburn on Nov. 26 and closes out the opening month at home on Nov. 29 with an 11 a.m. game against North Alabama.

The Bulldogs' first game in December came on the 10th at home against South Carolina State, before playing their four games on the road. AAMU visits Kansas City (Dec. 14), followed by three games at the FIU Christmas Tournament against Chicago State (Dec. 18), host FIU (Dec. 19) and Texas State (Dec. 20).

After Christmas, Alabama A&M's last home game before SWAC play begins is Dec. 29 versus Central Arkansas at the Event Center.
