Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M men's tennis fell to in-state opponent Samford on Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Club Alabama in their home opener of the 2023 season.
Samford earned a point for taking the first and third flights in doubles play, with
Vence N'Tcha (Cotonou, Benin) and
Arnav Pathange (Mysore, India) falling to Sandeep Mohandoss and Maxwell Giddens, while
Divesh Gahlot (Haryana, India) and
Freddie Lawrence (Peachtree City, Ga.) dropped their game to Darcy Nicholls and Will Gray, also by the same score.
At the No. 2 spot,
Chetanna Amadike (Calgary, Canada) and
Yin Chih Lan (New Taipei, Taiwan) were leading 5-4 before play was suspended.
In singles, Amadike (3-6, 7-6, 9-7) took the only win for the Alabama A&M in three sets, while Lawrence (0-6, 0-6), Gahlot (1-6, 2-6) and N'Tcha (0-6, 5-7) were swept in straight sets at the No. 6, No. 3, and No. 1 spots respectively.
Meanwhile, Chih Lan fell to J.B. Pickard at the No. 2 flight in three sets 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 followed by Panthage at the No. 5 flight dropping his match with scores of 1-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The program will remain home for their next match as they host their second non-conference foe of the month in Austin Peay on Friday, February 24, with first serve set for 1 p.m.
