Women’s Basketball to Face Bethune-Cookman in Key Battle for SWAC Standings

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M's women basketball program will host Southwestern Athletic (SWAC) opponent Bethune-Cookman on Saturday inside the Event Center for a crucial matchup in for SWAC Tournament seeding next month. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
The Bulldogs (11-12, 9-4 SWAC) enter the weekend tied with multiple teams in the SWAC standings heading into their final weekend at home. The program has won three of their last four outings since last facing Bethune-Cookman to close out the month of January. In the last meeting, A&M struggled offensively on the road, falling 55-46 inside of Moore Gymnasium.
 
A&M holds averages of 61.1 points per game in conference play, led by veterans Toni Grace (Fishers, Ind.) and Amani Free (Clay, N.Y.) scoring 11.8 and 11.7 points respectively on the year. Free also leads the team in rebounds at 5.7 per contest and three-pointers made (28). Meanwhile, Amiah Simmons (Osawatomie, Kan.) has also played well recently, winning SWAC Impact Player of the Week over the past week with two-game averages of 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while facing Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 11) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Feb. 13).
 
Bethune-Cookman (10-13, 9-4 SWAC) comes into the meeting after splitting their previous home stand, falling 77-52 against Jackson State on Monday, February 13. Prior to the loss against the Tigers, the Wildcats had won five straight games, starting with a win over Alabama State (Jan. 28) and including a win over Alabama A&M (Jan. 30) when the two programs last met.
