BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ No. 2 seed Alabama A&M's quarterfinal matchup at the SWAC Tournament is set and the Bulldogs will face No. 7-seed Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday at 11 a.m. inside of Bartow Arena. The game will tipoff Wednesday at 11 a.m. to start tournament play.
Seventh year head coach
Margaret Richards has led the Bulldogs to a No. 2 seed in for the second straight year, but still in search of her first appearance in the championship game. A&M was defeated by Grambling last season in the quarterfinals as the No. 7 seeded Tigers went on a run to fall in the semifinal round.
A&M went 14-14 (12-6 SWAC) in the regular season, maintaining an undefeated record at home in conference play for the first time in program history.
The two sides split the season series this year, with the Bulldogs taking the first meeting, 67-58, in Huntsville on January 2. In their last meeting on February 13, the Golden Lions snapped a three-game winning streak from A&M with a 60-57 win in the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Three Bulldogs averaged double figures offensively in the series, led by
Toni Grace at 12.5 points per game. She was followed by
Taylor Smith and
Amiah Simmons at 12 and 11 points per respectively.
Alabama A&M shot 39.8 percent from the field, 21.7 from long range and 74 percent from the free throw line in the two meetings, compared to 38.5 percent from the field, 14.3 percent from three and 49 percent from the charity stripe from UAPB.
