HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M men's tennis dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, with a 4-2 loss on Friday against Jackson State at the JSU Tennis Center, followed by a 4-0 score against Auburn on Sunday afternoon at the Yarborough Tennis Center.
On Friday, Jackson State jumped on the board early by winning the doubles point. The pairing of
Divesh Gahlot and
German Ruiz Crespo fell first on court three 6-2, before
Chetanna Amadike and
Yin Chih Lan dropped a 6-3 contest on court two.
Vence N'Tcha and
Arnav Pathange were tied 3-3 in their matchup at the close of doubles play.
Not much changed during singles play, as Chih Lan fell at the No. 2 flight 6-1, 6-1 to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs took the next two singles pairing, with Amadike taking down his opponent at the No. 4 flight 6-3, 6-3, before a 6-4, 6-2 win from Gahlot at the No. 3 flight.
With the score 2-2, Jackson State picked up the final two individual wins on courts one and six respectively to win the conference match.
In the quick turnaround on Sunday, Alabama A&M was swept by Auburn, 4-0 on the road.
The Tigers gained control early, with the doubles point, defeating all three pairings. Gahlot and Pathange fell first on court two 6-1, followed by N'Tcha and Ruiz Crespo and Amadike and Chih Lan with losses of 6-2 and 6-4 respectively.
The momentum was carried into singles competition, as Auburn took three wins. On the No. 1 flight, Tyler Stice defeated N'Tcha (6-2, 6-0), before
Freddie Lawrence (6-1, 6-1) and Ruiz Crespo fell on the No. 5 and No. 6 flights both in straight sets to wrap up the loss.
