DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama A&M volleyball team opened conference play in the 2023 season, taking on the Bethune Cookman Wildcats in Daytona Beach on Friday afternoon.
After five sets of action, Bethune Cookman (1-11,1-0 SWAC) won the match with 20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-25, and 15-17.
Alabama A&M (1-13, 0-1 SWAC) finished with 52 hits in 164 total attacks, 64 digs, 46 assists, and 4.0 total blocks, which resulted in 60 total points. Bailey Duckett led the offense with 14 kills, while Grace Tapscott recorded 22 assists. Defensively, Michell Jerez registered 20 digs. 
Bethune Cookman finished with 45 kills in 155 total attacks, 66 digs, 44 assists, and 11.0 total blocks, giving them sixty-eight total points. Mecca Freeman led the Wildcats with eight kills. Alisha Callender handed out 27 assists, and Rylee Davis had 20 digs.
