PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Both Chelsie Charles and Jasmine-Perez Acosta found the back of the net in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Prairie View A&M (1-9-3, 0-2-3 SWAC)
Though both the Bulldogs and the Panthers were even in shots and shots on target with 10 and four respectively, the Bulldogs were the only team able to capitalize on the chances by scoring two goals and notching their third shutout of the season.
AAMU started the match with high intensity, recording two shots before junior Charles took advantage of a misplaced goalkeeper and sent the ball to the lower center of the goal off her right foot to break open scoring in the match. PVAMU took two more shots, but it was Perez-Acosta who sent the ball to the top center of the net to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.
PVAMU tallied five on-target shots in the second half, but sophomore goalkeeper Liliana Ribeiro saved each shot to bring her season total saves to 83. Perez-Acosta and Charles now tie freshman Czaske Deane with most goals this season, with four a piece.
Alabama A&M improves to 5-10-1 and 3-3-1 in conference play as it prepares for its final regular season match against in-state rival Alabama State University on Friday, November 1st in Montgomery.
