THE HILL | The Alabama A&M Volleyball team (5-14, 3-4 SWAC) is set to take on the Alabama State Hornets (7-13, 4-3) on Wednesday at 7pm at Lockhart Gymnasium in Montgomery.
The Bulldogs look to level the current season series with the Hornets, as AAMU fell to ASU in a five-set battle on Friday evening in Elmore Gymnasium.
The Maroon and White was paced by Saldy Amparo-Smith who notched 22 kills, 10 blocks and two and a half blocks on the night. Following just behind was Fatima Ramirez, who totaled 18 terminations, 10 digs and a service ace. In addition to Amparo-Smith and Ramirez's digs, Michell Jerez and Kennedy Robinson led the Bulldog defense, digging 14 and 13 balls respectively.
Junior Kemora Coachman led the front row defense, totaling four solo blocks on the night. Grace Tapscott recorded 30 assists and a team-high five aces. Laela Price notched 16 assists and seven goals in the match versus ASU.
An overall balanced effort for the Hornets pushed them just past AAMU, as ASU had four players with 10 or more kills and three players with 12 or more digs. Though the Hornets received 18 kills from Jyriah Morgan, the march was paced by Bailee Payne who noted a 12 dig 10 kill double double.
ASU defense was paced by Breanna Swanson, who dug 22 balls on the night. Both Sierra Scanlan and Kamrynn Clay ended the match with 26 digs on the evening.
