Women’s Basketball to Face First Road Challenge

YPSILANTI, Mich. | The Alabama A&M women's basketball team is set to travel some 600 miles North for its first regular season road test against the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Saturday in the George Gervin GameAbove Center. Tip-off is scheduled for Noon (CT) and can be live streamed on ESPN+.

The Bulldogs opened the season by making history after welcoming the No.24 Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday night. The headliner contest was the first time AAMU has hosted a Southeastern Conference (SEC) in the AAMU Event Center. Thursday's contest was played in front of 5,639 fans, the largest crowd for a women's game in the Event Center.

Senior guard Kalia Walker paced the Bulldog offense with 13 points in the 84-59 loss, while senior Alisha Wilson led the defense with 12 rebounds, two steals and one block. Darian Burgin added 10 points and led the team with five assists. The Bulldogs finished with 19 bench points, 24 points in the paint and 13 second chance points.

EMU opened its regular season falling 75-71 to Texas State but saw two Eagles with at least 20 points. Junior Sisi Eloka led the way with 28 points and nine rebounds, followed by a 20 piece from Olivia Westphal. Mackenzie Amalia added 21 assists.

Saturday's game will mark the first time the Bulldogs and Eagles face each other. AAMU has played just one other Mid-American Conference (MAC) school, defeating Central Michigan 74-61 in 2009. Eastern Michigan is 3-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchups, winning each contest against Florida A&M.
