JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M women's volleyball team (5-19, 3-9 SWAC) will travel to the Magnolia State for their final pair of road contests on Sunday and Monday. The Bulldogs will face off with Jackson State on Sunday at Noon before heading to Itta Bena to compete against the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m.
AAMU hits the road after falling 3-0 to the Florida A&M Rattlers. The Marron and White were paced by Fatima Ramirez who totaled 10 kills, nine digs, and four aces. Grace Tapscott recorded 16 assists while Saniya Spalding led the front row defense, with four blocks.
JSU ends its Alabama host swing after sweeping Alabama State on Friday night. The Tigers offense was paced by Jayden James and Hope Briggs, who had 12 and 11 terminations respectively. The Tigers got 10 digs from Trinity Bryant along with five blocks from Jordan Jones to lead them defensively.
The Tigers and Bulldogs met at the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium earlier this season for AAMU's first home Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match, as the Bulldogs pulled ahead 3-2 to claim the victory in a tight battle with JSU. Senior Saldy Amparo-Smith led the team offensively in the match, as she tallied 18 kills and three service aces. Defensively, she picked up 10 balls from the floor and notched two and a half blocks. Madison Raybon led the team in hitting percentage, at .615%, terminating 9 balls on 13 swings. Michell Jerez recorded 12 digs during the match. Laela Price notched 20 assists, followed by Grace Tapscott's 17 assists and 3 service aces. The Bulldogs lead 26-18 in the overall series with the Tigers. On Monday, the Bulldogs with meet with the Devilettes of MVSU for their final home match of the season. The Delta Devils and Bulldogs met earlier this season with the Bulldogs earning their first conference sweep. Senior Fatima Ramirez led the Bulldogs both offensively and defensively, notching 11 kills, 12 digs, two assists, one block and one service ace . Following just behind Ramirez was Amparo-Smith, who recorded 10 terminations, seven digs and two solo blocks. Price tallied 13 assists on the night, and led both teams in service aces, with three.
