BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University forward Chad Moodie was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year, the conference announced during its awards ceremony on Tuesday evening at Bartow Arena.
 
Moodie had a breakout season during his freshman campaign, playing in all 31 games, with one start. He registered double-doubles in points and rebounds in four games (South Alabama, Grambling State, Bethune-Cookman and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
 
The Grayson, Ga. native posted a career-high 21 points against Prairie View A&M on Jan. 29 and a career-best 12 rebounds at Grambling State on Feb. 12. In addition, he blocked a career-high eight shots in Alabama A&M's victory over rival Alabama State on March 2.
 
Jackson State's Ken Evans and Jordan O'Neal were selected the conference player of the year and defensive player of the year, respectively. Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Rashad Williams earned the SWAC Newcomer of the Year honor and Grambling State's Donte' Jackson was selected the conference coach of the year.
 
Alabama A&M opens the 2024 SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will meet the second seed, Alcorn State, on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from Bartow Arena and streamed on ESPN+.
