CHARLOTTE, N.C. | Ana-Liese Torian and
Amber Jamison claimed personal bests and won the 100m hurdles and triple jump, respectively as the Alabama A&M University men's and women's track & field team opened its outdoor season over the weekend at the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
Torian posted a personal-best time of 13.44 to win the 100m hurdles, while Jamison won the triple jump, with a jump of 11.94m.
In addition,
Briana Cox posted a school record in the hammer throw at 49.70m and
Bruce Davis also collected a school record in the shot put at 14.92m.
"This weekend our athletes had an opportunity to compete in a field of over 1,600 athletes," Alabama A&M head track & field coach
Andrew Murphy said. "The hard work of our team is beginning to show as we walk away with two event winners, two school records and numerous personal best performances. We'll use this season opener as the foundation to a successful season."
WOMEN'S TRACK EVENTS
- Ana-Liese Torian posted a personal-best time of 13.44 to win the 100m hurdles
- Torian also placed fourth in the 200m, logging a time of 24.50
- The 4x400m relay team placed fifth, with a time of 3:59.40, while the "B" team finished eighth in 4:01.94
WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS
- Amber Jamison won the triple jump with a personal-best jump of 11.94m
- Ta'Nya Burnett placed sixth in the triple jump at 11.14m
- Briana Cox set a school record in the hammer throw at 49.70m
MEN'S TRACK EVENTS
- The 4x400m relay team finished third, logging a time of 3:13.96
MEN'S FIELD EVENTS
- In the shot put, Bruce Davis set a school record, with a toss of 14.92m
- In the javelin, Brandon McLaren placed eighth, with a toss of 57.67m
