HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | In a battle of the top two Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) men's tennis program, Alabama A&M came up just a bit short as Alabama State picked up a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon at the AAMU Tennis Courts.
Alabama A&M (4-8 overall, 4-1 SWAC) grabbed a quick 1-0 in the match, earning the doubles point.
The team of
Freddie Lawrence and
Vence N'Tcha defeated David Jeanne Grandinot and Matteo Lataste, 6-0, at No. 1 and at No. 2, the team of
Chetanna Amadike and
Yin Chih Lan bested Matis Amier and Alexandre Verlaguet, 6-4.
Alabama State (11-1, 8-0) rallied in singles play, winning at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6.
At No. 4,
Arnav Pathange beat Verlaguet, 6-4, 6-1, while at No. 2, Amadike knocked off Samrakshyak Bajracharya, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
With the match tied at 3, it all came down to No. 6 as Lawrence fell to Lataste, 6-1, 7-5, as Alabama State picked up the 4-3 win.

Alabama A&M closes out SWAC play next Saturday (March 30) as the Bulldogs play host to Jackson State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the AAMU Tennis Courts.
