BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team stepped out of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play for its mid-week game as the Bulldogs fell to UAB, 16-1 in seven innings on Tuesday at Young Memorial Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UAB (12-12) plated six runs, including a grand slam by Reed Latimer, in the bottom of the first inning in jumping out to a 6-0 lead.
Alabama A&M (3-20) got a run back in the top of the third inning, closing the gap to 6-1.
Blake Martin and
Kylan Duncan drew back-to-back hit by pitches and with one out,
Alex Diaz singled up the middle to load the bases.
Mekhi Lloyd brought Martin across on a sacrifice fly to center.
However, the Blazers plated one run in the bottom of the inning, seven more in the fourth and sealed the victory with two in the sixth.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with one run on four hits, had one error and left five on base
- Alex Diaz, Jared Tribett, Jesus Riera and Blake Martin collected one hit each
- Roman Sorrell (0-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs on two hits, with four walks in 0.1 innings
- Charlie Lazo, Trey Scott and Brett Parker pitched in relief
- UAB finished with 16 runs on nine hits and stranded seven on base
- Reed Latimer went 2-for-4, with five RBI and three runs scored
- Collin Patterson (1-1) fanned six, walked four, gave up one run on two hits to earn the win in four innings
- Tyler Haines worked the final three innings in relief
UP NEXT
Alabama A&M has a short turnaround this week as the Bulldogs visit Bethune-Cookman for a three-game SWAC series, starting on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
