JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team suffered a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) setback on Friday night as Jackson State scored seven runs over the final two innings to pull away for a 9-1 victory at Braddy Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (5-27 overall, 3-10 SWAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of first inning.
Dre Amaral opened the game with a single to center and advanced to second on a
Brycen Hammonds base hit through the right side. With one out,
Miles Jackson reached on a fielder's choice as Amaral scored on a throwing error.
Jackson State (22-10, 7-5) tied the game at 1 with one run in the third and took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fourth.
The Tigers exploded for seven runs on the final two innings to pick up the conference win.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with one run on four hits, committed two errors and stranded seven on base
- Dre Amaral, Brycen Hammonds, Blake Martin and Chevalier Dorris each had one hit
- Anthony Mateo (1-6) took the loss, giving up five runs (five earned) on seven hits and fanned four in 7.1 innings.
- Dustin Hernandez worked 0.2 innings out of the bullpen
- Jackson State finished with nine runs on nine hits, had one error and left five on base
- Ledy Alvarez and Jordan McCaddie each recorded two hits
- Garrett VanDeventer (4-3) earned the win, giving up one unearned run on four hits, walking five and striking out four in 6.1 innings
- CJ Lewis pitched in relief
