TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Jesus Riera belted a three-run homer but it wasn't enough as the Alabama A&M University baseball team could not overcome big innings by Florida A&M in a 17-11 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) loss on Saturday at Moore-Kittles Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (7-30 overall, 4-14 SWAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Riera brought
Dre Amaral across on a sacrifice fly and
Blake Martin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate
Brycen Hammonds.
Florida A&M (20-18, 16-2) tied the game at 2 with a pair of runs in the second and AAMU got a run in the top of the third to grab a 3-2 advantage.
However, the Rattlers scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-3 lead.
The Bulldogs plated one run in the fourth and fifth innings, trimming the deficit to 7-5.
Florida A&M responded with one run in the fifth, one in the six and exploded for five in the seventh for a 14-5 lead.
Alabama A&M refused to go away quietly, plating four runs, including a three-run homer by Riera in the eighth, cutting the margin to 14-9.
The Rattlers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning as Alabama A&M got two runs in the ninth, but it wasn't enough in a 17-11 loss.
