TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University softball team began its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Friday with a 9-1 loss to Florida A&M at Veronica Wiggins Field at the University Softball Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida A&M (22-17 overall, 18-4 SWAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and extended the advantage to 8-0 with five runs in the second.
The Rattlers stretched their lead to 9-0 with a run in the third.
Catherine Hickey belted a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning as Alabama A&M fell, 9-1, in five innings.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M (8-25, 4-17) finished with one run on two hits, committed one error and left one on base
- Catherine Hickey went 1-for-2, with a solo home run
- Allyson Riches also went 1-for-2
- Cris'Deona Beasley (5-10) took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, with two walks and one strikeout in 1.1 innings
- Paige Scott pitched in relief
- Florida A&M finished with eight runs on 12 hits, had one error and stranded four on base
- Nyomi Jones went 3-for-3, with three runs scored
- Samantha Smith went 1-for-3, including a grand slam homer in the second inning
- Zoryana Hughes earned the win, surrendering one run on two hits and fanned five in 5.0 innings

Alabama A&M concludes the season on Saturday with a doubleheader at Florida A&M. First pitch for the twinbill is set for 11 a.m. (CT) from Veronica Wiggins Field at the University Softball Complex.
