THE HILL | Alabama A&M University has named Rufus Green as its new head softball coach, Vice President & Director of Athletics Dr. Paul A. Bryant announced on Tuesday.
Green comes to The Hill after serving as head coach at Fort Valley State, where he led the Wildcats' program while emphasizing player development, accountability and academic success. A veteran coach with more than two decades of experience at the high school and collegiate levels, Green has built a reputation for developing championship-minded student-athletes and fostering a culture centered on excellence and leadership.
A Columbus State University graduate and U.S. Army Airborne veteran, Green brings a leadership style rooted in discipline, integrity and service. His coaching stops have included Macon County High School, Taylor County High School and Fort Valley State, where he also served with FVSU football for two years and as an adjunct instructor before taking over the softball program.
Throughout his coaching career, he has earned many accolades such as 2024 SIAC Coach of the Year, 2024 SIAC East Champions, 2025 and 2026 SIAC Runner Up, and 2026 SIAC All Conference selection.Â
Green's coaching philosophy is simple: "Dominate the areas you control: Your energy, effort and attitude."
