Alabama A&M Falls in Doubleheader at Jackson State

JACKSON, MS | Alabama A&M softball dropped both games of a doubleheader to Jackson State on Saturday at JSU Softball Field.


In game one, Alabama A&M fell 6-4 despite out-hitting Jackson State 12-4. 


The Bulldogs struck first, plating runs in the opening two innings, highlighted by a solo home run from Mary Grace Whatley in the second. Alabama A&M continued to apply pressure at the plate, with Grace Cruthis leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance, including a triple and an RBI, while Kali Austerman added three hits, including a home run. 


After building a 2-0 lead, the Bulldogs saw momentum shift in the second inning as Jackson State used a four-run frame to take control. Alabama A&M continued to battle back, adding runs in the sixth and seventh innings, including a late solo home run from Austerman, but ultimately fell short. 


On the mound, Josefina Lacalle went the distance, allowing six runs, just two earned,while striking out four. 


In game two, Alabama A&M was unable to recover from an early deficit, falling 10-0 in five innings. 


Jackson State jumped out quickly with three runs in the first inning and added four more in the second to take a commanding lead. The Tigers continued to build separation, scoring in four of the five innings to secure the run-rule victory. 


Alabama A&M was limited to three hits in the contest, with Tori Green, Paula Ocrospoma, and Kailee Gilbert each recording one.


UP NEXT 


The Bulldogs will continue on the road to face Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, FL on Saturday, April 24th. First pitch is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
