DAYTONA BEACH, FL | Alabama A&M softball jumped out to an early lead but was unable to hold off a late surge, falling 13-5 to Bethune-Cookman on Friday evening at Sunnyland ParkĀ
The Bulldogs came out swinging in the top of the first inning, as Kali Austerman launched a two-run home run to left field to give AAMU a quick 2-0 advantage. Bethune-Cookman answered with a run in the bottom half, then took control in the third inning with a four-run frame to flip the momentum.
Trailing 5-2 entering the fourth, Alabama A&M struggled to slow down the Wildcats' offense, which erupted for eight runs in the inning to create separation. The Bulldogs showed resilience in the fifth, putting together a three-run rally highlighted by RBI efforts from Kara Burman, Mariah Solorio, and Kaylee Tatum, but the comeback attempt fell short.
AAMU totaled 10 hits on the night, led by Austerman's 2-for-2 performance with two RBI and a home run. Burman added two hits and an RBI, while Grace Cruthis scored twice to pace the offense.Ā
