HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Jesus Riera blasted a two-run homer in the third inning as the Alabama A&M University baseball team bounced back from Friday's loss with a 6-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (10-31 overall, 6-14 SWAC) plated one run in the bottom of the first inning as
Brycen Hammonds, who reached on a one-out infield hit, scored on a
Zak Rice single through the left side as the Bulldogs grabbed an early 1-0 lead.
AAMU added to the lead in the second.
Miles Jackson began the frame with a single to left and advanced to second on a balk.
Jared Tribett doubled to left center, scoring Jackson. Tribett came across when
Dre Amaral reached on an error as the Bulldogs extended the advantage to 3-0.
Alabama A&M stretched the advantage to 5-0 on a Riera two-run homer in the third.
Bethune-Cookman (25-18, 15-5) trimmed the deficit to 5-1 with a run in the fourth but the Bulldogs answered in the sixth with a run and cruised down the stretch for the 6-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with six runs on nine hits and left eight on base
- Jared Tribett went 3-for-4, with two runs scored and one RBI
- Brycen Hammonds went 2-for-5, with one run scored
- Jesus Riera went 1-for-4, with two RBI and one run scored
- Ryan Jones (2-3) gave up one run on three hits, struck out one and walked two in five innings to earn the win
- Evan Hurlburt was magnificent in relief, fanning three and walking two, while giving up one hit in 4.0 innings of relief
- Bethune-Cookman finished with one run on four hits, with two errors and stranded nine on base
- Marcos Gamboa (3-3) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits, with three walks and one strikeout in 3.2 innings
- Dylan Dudones worked the final 4.1 innings in relief
