CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team took to the road in search of its third consecutive win on Tuesday night but ran into the power Austin Peay lineup as John Bay belted two grand slams and Harrison Brown set a single-game RBI school record as the Bulldogs fell, 35-1, at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Austin Peay (28-16) raced out to a 4-0 advantage with four runs on three hits and took advantage of an error in the top of the first inning.
The Govs stretched the advantage to 7-0 in the second on a three-run homer by Brown.
Bay belted grand slams in the third and fourth inning as Austin Peay took advantage of six walks and two hit batters as the Govs put the game out of reach, 18-0, after four innings.
A solo homer by
Jared Tribett in the fifth put Alabama A&M on the board as the Bulldogs trailed, 18-1.
The Govs added to the lead with three more runs in the fifth and exploded for 14 runs in the sixth, including the third grand slam of the game.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M (11-32) finished with one run on two hits, with three errors and two left on base
- Blake Martin and Jared Tribett collected one hit each
- Roman Sorrell (1-5) took the loss, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on six hits, with three walks and one strikeout in 2.0 innings
- Avery Seaton, Trey Scott and Brett Parker pitched in relief
- Austin Peay finished with 35 runs on 25 hits and left five on base
- Harrison Brown went 4-for-6, with a school-record 11 RBI and four runs scored
- John Bay went 4-for-4, with nine runs batted in and two runs scored
- Conner Gore went 4-for-5, with three runs scored and a pair of RBI
- Keaton Cottam collected three hits, four runs scored and one RBI
- Solomon Washington fanned seven and scattered just one hit in 4.0 innings
- Deaton Oak, Kyle Klingenbeck and Luke Rolland worked in relief

Alabama A&M returns home for a pivotal three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against rival Alabama State, starting on Saturday from the Bulldog Baseball Field. First pitch for the opener is set for 2 p.m.
