JACKSON, Miss. | Zahria Jones went 3-for-3, with a pair of runs driven in, but it wasn't enough as the Alabama A&M University softball team ended its season on Tuesday with a 7-2 loss to Jackson State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game at the JSU Softball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jackson State (29-17 overall, 16-8 SWAC) plated a run in the bottom of the first inning to grab a 1-0 lead as Jace Jackson doubled to right, scoring Kaliyah Gipson.
Alabama A&M (9-27, 5-19) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third.
With two down,
Katie Puckett doubled to left and advanced to third when
Faith Cross reached on an error. Jones followed and doubled to left as Puckett and Cross scored, giving the Bulldogs the one-run lead.
However, Jackson State responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 2, and scored five runs in between the fourth and fifth, to take a 7-2 advantage.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with two runs on eight hits and seven on base
- Zahria Jones went 3-for-3, with two RBI
- Katie Puckett went 2-for-4, with one run scored
- Paige Scott (3-7) took the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits, with three walks and a pair of strikeouts in 4.1 innings
- Sydney Hall also pitched in relief
- Jackson State finished with seven runs on 11 hits, committed two errors and stranded eight on base
- Kaliyah Gipson, Jalia Hubbard and Jace Jackson each collected two hits
- Victoria Salazar (11-9) earned the win, giving up two runs on six hits, with one strikeout in 6.0 innings
- Sofia Gonzalez worked the final inning in relief
