HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team celebrated Senior Day and its Hispanic Heritage Game on Friday afternoon with a 13-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) loss to Jackson State at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jackson State (33-18 overall, 16-12 SWAC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead, with three runs in the first and two in the top of the second inning.
Alabama A&M (13-38, 9-20) picked up a run in the bottom of the second as
Alex Diaz ripped a two-out double and scored on a
Chevalier Dorris base hit to center, closing the gap to 5-1.
The Tigers used a three-run fourth inning and added two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 10-1.
The Bulldogs got a sacrifice fly by
Jesus Riera in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 10-2.
Alabama A&M struck for four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Diaz opened the frame with a double down the right field line and scored on
Mekhi Lloyd's RBI double down the left field line. With one out,
Dre Amaral singled to right as Lloyd scored. After a pitching change,
Jared Tribett absolutely crushed a shot to deep left as AAMU cut the margin to 10-6.
Back came Jackson State in the seventh with two runs as Alabama A&M could not rally over the final two innings.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with seven runs on 11 hits and stranded 10 on base
- Jared Tribett, Alex Diaz, Mekhi Lloyd and Chevalier Dorris each collected two hits
- Gabe Nicholson (2-2) took the loss, giving up nine runs on 14 hits, walked two and struck out one in 4.0 innings
- Ryan Jones, Roman Sorrell, Dustin Hernandez and Brett Parker pitched in relief
- Jackson State finished with 13 runs on 20 hits, committed one error and left 12 on base
- Robert Tate paced the JSU offense by going 5-for-5, with three RBI and three runs scored
- Erick Gonzalez (5-2) earned the win, surrendering five runs on seven hits, with five walks and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings
- CJ Lewis, Brandon Haston and Isiah Williams worked in relief
UP NEXT
Alabama A&M concludes the season on Saturday against Jackson State. First pitch against the Tigers is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the Bulldog Baseball Field.
