Two Early Goals Lift Ospreys Past Bulldogs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Alabama A&M University women's soccer team (0-4-0) would hold the North Florida Ospreys (2-1-1) to the least amount of goals in Bulldog match-ups so far this season, but they would still prove critical in the Bulldogs' loss in Sunday's matinee.

Both of the Ospreys goals came within the first 14 minutes, with the first being 25 seconds into the match. The Ospreys would shoot five more times in the period, three of which would be saved by sophomore keeper Liliana Ribeiro.

The Bulldogs would have two solid attempts in the first half, by way of freshman Alicia Cohen and senior Jasmine Perez-Acosta, but neither would be able to convert.

AAMU had a much better second frame defensively, not allowing any goals on 10 Osprey attempts. Offensively, sophomore Meghane St. Cyr would get an early look at the goal but would be blocked by a North Florida defender.

Senior Madalynn Tanksley saw her 2024-25 season debut in the second half and recorded one save.

The overall series between the Bulldogs and Ospreys now stands at 1-1.

AAMU head coach Prince Borde knows that matches like this make for a better team. "These four games have already made us into a better team" he said. "Another hard-working performance against a team that just beat the University of Miami and tied with the Florida Gators. Our first halves of games will get better. Our second haves have been amazing.

Borde looks forward to the home opener on Sunday, Sept. 1st against West Georgia at 3 p.m. "We cannot wait to play our first home game to show the fans what we are capable of".
