THE HILL | The Alabama A&M volleyball team (2-9, 0-0 SWAC) is set to start its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) season against Grambling State University (4-8, 0-0 SWAC) on Sunday at 2 pm and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (2-12, 0-0 SWAC) on Monday at 6 pm.
The Bulldogs are continuing their longest road stretch of the season, most recently falling 3-0 to the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Tuesday. Senior Saldy Amparo-Smith was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week last week, after tallying 35 kills, 17 digs and 2 service aces in the Wildcat Classic the week prior.
The Grambling State Tigers are returning hit the road after two home victories against Nicholls and Texas College. The 3-2 victory over Nicholls State venged a four-set loss to the Colonels earlier this season. The Tigers swept the match against Texas college, highlighted by a balanced offense and 15 assists and 10 digs from junior Ana Zink. The Bulldogs lead 11-1 in the all-time series against the Tigers.
The Golden Lions of Arkansas Pine Bluff begin SWAC play with an Alabama home swing, hosting the Alabama State Hornets on Sunday, and the Bulldogs on Monday. They return from the Tulane/ New Orleans Invitational, where they went 1-2 over the tournament, claiming a 3-1 victory over New Orleans, but falling 3-0 in both matches against UC Riverside and Tulane. AAMU leads in the all-time series with the Golden Lions 16-3, with the most recent victory coming last season in a 3-2 bout in Arkansas.
