FLORENCE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University volleyball team (2-2) dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-12) decision to the North Alabama Lions (1-3) in their first road match of the season.
Fatima Ramirez led AAMU in points on the night with nine kills on 27 attempts. Bailey Duckett and Mackenzie Jarvis tied for most digs for the Maroon and White, with 10 a piece.
UNA will move to 9-5 in all-time meetings against the Bulldogs.
AAMU will continue their road swing at the Maryland Tournament Sept. 6th and 7th, where they will face Georgetown, Maryland, and American University.
Set One
The home team would open the match with three straight points, with two coming from Bulldog errors. AAMU would get two points on the board thanks to a UNA service error and Ramirez's first kill on the night. This would be the closest score of the set. UNA would win six of the next eight points at 9-4. A pair of kills from both Ramirez and Duckett would keep AAMU in the match, but the Lions would tally eight more to give the first set, 25-14.
Set Two
The second frame would begin similarly to the first, in that the Lions scored three unanswered points. The Bulldogs, however, would level the match after a trio of terminations from Duckett and Ramirez. The teams would go point-for-point before the UNA went on a 9-2 run to put them ahead ayt16-11. They would score nine more consecutive points to secure the second stanza, 25-11.
Set Three
The Bulldogs started the first set with a bit more intensity, keeping up with the Lions at 4-5. UNA would claim seven of the next nine points to give them a comfortable lead at 12-6. The Bulldogs would capitalize on some Lions errors, and nab two more terminations, but would not be enough, as the hosting team would take the set, and the match, 25-12.
