Box Score 2 COLLEGE PARK, Md. | The Alabama A&M University women's volleyball team (2-4) ended the first day of the Maryland Invitational after compteting against Georgetown University and the University of Maryland. The Bulldogs dropped both matches 3-0.
The first match of the day was paced by the team seniors, as Saldy Amparo-Smith led the team in both kills and digs, with nine and 12 respectively. Senior Fatima Ramirez notched eight kills, eight kills and one ace. Senior Michell Jerez dug 11 balls and had a service ace of her own. The Bulldogs were the best offensively in the second set, hitting a .200%. The Hoyas ultimately took the win in the match, in straight sets (25-18, 15-13, 25-15).
Though the Maryland Terrapins would claim the second match in a decisive 3-0 bout, junior Huntsville-native Bailey Duckett shined, tallying eight kills on the night. Ramirez had seven kills of her own, as well as a service ace. The second set was once again the best frame offensively for AAMU, where they hit .118%.
Alabama A&M will finish off the Invitational againt the American University Eagles (5-0) on Saturday at 11 AM (EST).
