NASHVILLE, Tenn. | The Alabama A&M University men's tennis team will start the 2025 campaign with a midweek matinee, as the Bulldogs travel to Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores on Thursday at noon at the Currey Tennis Center Complex.
The Bulldogs return six players from last season, including Kai Cowcher and Freddie Lawrence, who were each selected to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference Second Team last season. Cowcher was also named to the 2024 SWAC Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of 2024 conference tournament. Lawrence and junior Yin Chih Lan earned Intercollegiate Tennis Academy (ITA) Scholar-Athlete recognition last season as well.
The Bulldogs completed last season by going 6-12 overall and 5-1 in conference play. AAMU was edged by Jackson State in the Semifinals of the SWAC tournament, with Cowcher picking up a win in the doubles session with Arnav Panthage, and a victory in singles play.
The Dores open their spring slate after competing in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 2019. Vanderbilt fell in the first round to Oklahoma State but will face 15 teams who also made last year's tournament during this year's swing. The Commodores went 13-13 overall last season, and 4-8 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. The Dores are one of three SEC teams the Bulldogs face this season, as AAMU will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on February 2 and the Auburn Tigers on March 22.
Fans planning to attend can park for free in the 25th avenue Garage through the Highland Avenue entrance. Spectators may park in any non-reserved space on floors nine through 11 beginning one hour prior to the start of the match. Admission to the match is free.
