THE HILL | The non-conference slate is over as the Alabama A&M University men's basketball team begins Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action with a pair of home games, starting on Saturday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off against the Golden Lions is set for 4 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on Bulldogs All-Access.
The matchup with Arkansas-Pine Bluff is the first of two this season as Alabama A&M will travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. on Feb. 17.
Alabama A&M (4-9) seeks a strong start as the Bulldogs open with Arkansas-Pine Bluff and wrap up its two-game conference-opener swing on Monday at home against Mississippi Valley State.
The Bulldogs are looking to end a six-game losing streak and is coming off a 92-49 loss last Saturday at Georgia Tech.
Alabama A&M averaging 76.8 points per game and shooting 40.7 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs rank seventh nationally in turnovers forced per game and eighth in offensive rebounds per game.
AC Bryant leads three Bulldog players in double figures at 12.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Chad Moodie is posting 11.7 points and 4.6 boards, while
Quincy McGriff is averaging 10.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Lorenzo Downey now sits 11 points and Moodie 87 points shy of reaching 500 for their careers.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-10) returns to the court after two-plus weeks off as the Golden Lions last played on Dec. 17 with a 120-61 victory over Ecclesia College, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Against Ecclesia, Arkansas-Pine Bluff led 66-28 at the half and cruised in the second half for the lopsided win. UAPB had seven players in double figures, led by Dennis Asoro with 16 points, followed by Kyle Brown and Zach Reinhart with 15 each.
Dante Sawyer leads two Golden Lions players in double figures, averaging 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals, while Christian Moore is averaging 11.5 points, 5.1 assists, 2.8 boards and 1.5 steals.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff, which is averaging 74.7 points and shooting 47.0 percent from the floor, is seeking its first win away from home, going 0-10 during the non-conference slate.
After Saturday's conference opener, the Bulldogs will return to action on Monday night as Mississippi Valley State comes to town. Tip-off against the Delta Devils is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on Bulldogs All-Access.
