Bulldogs Seek First Road Win in the Sunshine State

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team returns to the road with a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) games inside the Sunshine State as the Bulldogs seek their first road win of the season.

Alabama A&M (7-13 overall, 3-4 SWAC) begins the trip at 5 p.m. (central time) on Saturday at Florida A&M and concludes the road swing at 6 p.m. (central time) on Monday against Bethune-Cookman. The Bulldogs and Rattlers will be streamed on the SWAC Digital Network, while Monday's contest will be streamed on the Cateye Network on YouTube.

AAMU is one of three conference teams (Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State) to have won on the road this season. The Bulldogs are looking to avoid the road blues and put together back-to-back wins for the first time since the beginning of January.

Alabama A&M is coming off a 98-82 blowout win on Monday night at home to Prairie View A&M, which snapped a four-game losing streak. The win was the largest point total for the Bulldogs this season against a conference opponent and the most against a member of the SWAC since the 2006 season (Texas Southern – W, 99-75).

In Monday night's win, AC Bryant poured in 27 points, his second game this season scoring more than 20 points and Chad Moodie recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards. The Bulldogs shot a season-best 84.4 percent from the foul line and scored 42 points in the paint and off the bench.

Alabama A&M is averaging 77.0 points per game and shooting nearly 41.0 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs rank second nationally in offensive rebounds per game and fifth in turnovers forced per game. In addition, AAMU is 13th in bench points and 15th in fastbreak points.

AC Bryant leads two Bulldog players in double figures, averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals, while Chad Moodie has posted 11.0 points, 5.7 boards, 1.8 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.

Perhaps no team, with the exception of Southern, is hotter than Florida A&M at the moment.

The Rattlers come into the weekend riding a four-game winning streak after taking down Jackson State, 72-62, on Monday night.

Florida A&M, which has not dropped a game since a 79-72 defeat at Grambling State on Jan. 13, has defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Mississippi Valley State, Alcorn State and Jackson State during its four-game winning streak.

The Rattlers (7-11, 4-3) are 5-1 at home, with the lone loss coming on Jan. 4 to rival Bethune-Cookman.

In Monday's road win, FAMU had four players reach double figures in scoring. Jordan Chatman led the way with 18 points, while Milton Matthews added 17. Kaleb Washington tallied 16 points and nine rebounds and Roderick Coffee III chipped in 12 points.

The Rattlers shot nearly 44 percent from the floor and 70.0 percent from the foul line in the victory over the Tigers.

Sterling Young paces FAMU's offense at 15.1 points, 1.8 boards and 1.5 assists per game, while Matthews is second on the team, averaging 12.5 points, 2.8 boards and 1.4 assists.

Florida A&M is shooting 42.5 percent from the floor and averaging nearly 71.0 points per game.

After Saturday's game, the Bulldogs will visit Bethune-Cookman on Monday. Tip-off against the Wildcats is scheduled for 6 p.m. (central time) from Moore Gymnasium and streamed on the CatEye Network. BCU plays Alabama State on Saturday, and the Wildcats are 3-0 this season at home.
