MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Rayishon Jackman registered a double-double of 21 kills and 10 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Alabama A&M University volleyball team dropped a five-set decision to Alabama State, 3-2, on Friday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match inside Lockhart Gymnasium.
Alabama A&M (14-6 overall, 5-2 SWAC), which has not won at ASU since 2019, came into the night seeking to end a 10-game losing streak to its rivals.
The Bulldogs appeared in good position to end the streak after jumping out to a 2-0 lead after claiming 25-20 and 25-23 wins. But Alabama State (6-13, 5-2) responded with three straight victories (25-16, 25-22, 15-11) to pick up the five-set victory.
Alabama A&M finished with 57 kills, 54 assists, 46 digs, 12 blocks and three service aces.
Jackman hit .271 and recorded 21 kills, 10 digs, two assists, one block and one service ace to pace the AAMU offense.
Fatima Ramirez added 13 kills, 10 digs, two blocks, two service aces and one assist.
Nisaan Martinez chipped in 11 kills and three digs.
Briana Smith and
Kaydee Smith dished out 29 and 16 assists, respectively, while
Kelani Talakai led the defense with 14 digs.
Alabama State finished with 72 kills, 69 assists, 54 digs, 11 blocks and three service aces.
Jyriah Morgan paced the Hornets with a match-high 25 kills (hitting .362), with one dig and one block. Camille Holloway added 15 kills, one dig and one block. Kamrynn Clay tallied 55 assits, while Brooke Adams and Breanna Swanson posted 15 and 14 digs, respectively.
