Nisaan Martinez combined for 29 kills as the Alabama A&M University volleyball team dropped a five-set Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match to Prairie View A&M, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
Alabama A&M outlasted Prairie View A&M in the opening set, 27-25, but back came the Panthers in the second set with a 25-18 victory, tying the match at 1. The Bulldogs battled back to a third-set 25-23 win. However, PVAMU took the final two sets, 25-17 and 15-12, to claim the five-set victory.
Alabama A&M (14-8 overall, 5-4 SWAC) finished with 55 kills, 72 digs, 48 assists, 7.0 total team blocks and four service aces.
Jackman led the Bulldog offense with 16 kills, eight digs and one service aces. Martinez posted 13 kills, four digs and two block solos.
Fatima Ramirez added a team-high 21 digs, along with nine kills.
Briana Smith and
Kaydee Smith dished out 32 and 14 assists, respectively.
Prairie View A&M (12-11, 9-1) finished with 60 kills, 90 digs, 57 assists, 8.0 total team blocks and six service aces.
Kylee Owens led the Panthers with a double-double of 19 kills and 14 digs, while D'Mya Hill added 15 kills. Iyonna Sherwood tallied 10 kills, while Tayler Ruffin and MaKinzie Taplin chipped in 26 assists each. Leila Smalls and Taplin posted 31 and 13 digs.
