BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University volleyball team finished in a four-way tie for fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) standings after the matches were completed on Sunday as the Bulldogs will enter the conference tournament as the fifth seed.
Alabama A&M (18-11) tied Southern, Florida A&M and Texas Southern in the fifth spot and based on the tiebreaker procedures, the Bulldogs ended up as the fifth seed.
AAMU will open the tournament in the quarterfinals against the fourth seed, Bethune-Cookman. The two teams split the season series, with Alabama A&M winning 3-2 at home, while BCU defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, in Daytona Beach.
The conference tournament begins on Friday at Florida A&M University and games will be available to watch on SWAC TV.
Prairie View A&M (18-11) enters as the tournament's top seed after claiming the SWAC regular season title. The Panthers will open quarterfinal action against the eighth seed, Florida A&M.
The winner of the Prairie View A&M/Florida A&M match will face the winner of the Alabama A&M/Bethune-Cookman match in the semifinals on Saturday.
On the bottom of the bracket, Jackson State (13-13) is the No. 2 seed and will meet the No. 7 seed, Southern, while Alabama State, the No. 3 seed, will face off against the No. 6 seed Texas Southern.
The winners of those matches will face off in the second semifinal match on Saturday, with the championship match set for 1:30 p.m. (central) on Sunday.
