HOUSTON, Texas | The Alabama A&M University baseball team held a one-run lead in the top of the sixth inning, but could not overcome a three-run frame by Jackson State, falling 6-3 to the Tigers on Saturday during the second day of the HBCU Cactus Jack Classic at Daikin Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (0-2) broke a 0-0 tie with a run in the top half of the third inning as
Dre Amaral drew a one-out walk and came across to score on a
Brycen Hammonds ground out as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead.
Jackson State (1-1) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Joseph Eichelberger's double brought in a pair of runs.
The Bulldogs responded in the top of the fifth as
Trey Rutledge opened the frame with a base hit to left and advanced to second when Amaral walked. A double played moved Rutledge to third and he scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at 2.
Alabama A&M picked up a run in the sixth as
Miles Jackson opened the inning with a triple to center and after an
Angel Rivera walk, scored on a
Desmore Joseph fielder's choice as the Bulldogs grabbed a 3-2 advantage.
Jackson State got a three-run homer by Pierre Cabral in the bottom of the frame as the Tigers took a 5-3 lead.
JSU added one more run in the eighth as Alabama A&M could not rally in the top half of the ninth.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with three runs on three hits, committed one error and stranded one on base
- Brycen Hammonds, Miles Jackson and Trey Rutledge each collected one hit
- Jaiden Proper (0-1) took the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned) on just two hits, with four walks and two strikeouts in six innings
- Charlie Lazo worked the final two innings in relief
- Jackson State finished with six runs on four hits, with one error and left four on base
- Joseph Eichelberge paced the JSU offense by going 2-for-3, with three runs scored and one RBI
- Eric Elliott started for the Tigers, going 4.2 innings and giving up two runs on a pair of hits, with five walks and two strikeouts
- Miles Thomas, Shemar Harris (1-0) and Brandon Haston (save) pitched in relief
