VERO BEACH, Fla. | Kylan Duncan and
Trey Rutledge combined for four hits and three runs scored as the Alabama A&M University baseball team concluded the 2025 Andre Dawson Classic with a 13-6 loss to Florida A&M on Sunday at Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida A&M (2-5) plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning, six in the second off four AAMU errors and one more in the third for a 9-0 advantage.
Alabama A&M (2-5) got the bats going in the fifth inning scoring five runs, including a three-run homer by
Wilmer Cuevas, as the Bulldogs closed the gap to 9-5.
Brycen Hammonds opened the frame with a walk and stole second. He moved to third on
Dre Amaral's single to center. Duncan followed with an RBI base hit to left as Hammonds scored and Amaral stopped at third. Duncan stole second and Rutledge drew a walk to load the bases. Amaral came across on a sacrifice fly to center by
Charles Morris and
Cuevas cleared the bases with a homer to deep left as the Bulldogs pulled to within four runs.
Back came the Rattlers, scoring two runs in the bottom of the frame, pushing the lead to 11-5.
The Bulldogs got a run back in the half of the seventh.
With one down, Rutledge singled to center and advanced to second when Morris drew a walk.
Isaac Castro walked with two outs and Rutledge scored on a balk as AAMU closed the gap to 11-6.
Florida A&M got a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning by Josue Figueroa, extending the lead to 13-6.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with six runs on six hits, committed eight errors and stranded seven on base
- Kylan Duncan went 2-for-5, with one run scored and one RBI
- Trey Rutledge was 2-for-4, with a pair of runs scored
- Nick Espinola (0-1) took the losing, surrendering eight runs (three earned) on five hits, with three walks in 1.1 innings

- Florida A&M finished with 13 runs on 12 hits, had one error and left 11 on base
- Josue Figueroa went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored
- Broedy Poppell went 3-for-4, with four runs scored
- Jay Campbell was 2-for-4, with three RBI and one run scored
- Jesus Campa (1-0) earned his first win, giving up five earned runs on five hits, with four strikeouts and three walks in five innings
- Trenten Langley and Cody Williams pitched in relief

Alabama A&M returns to action with its midweek game on Tuesday as the Bulldogs visit Memphis. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. from FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field.
