THE HILL | Defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week, Kai Cowcher claimed a three-set (6-3, 4-6, 10-7) victory in the 6-1 loss to the Troy University Trojans.

The Trojans quickly claimed the doubles point with 6-2, 6-0 decisions on courts two and three, though Cowcher and Tasso Moreira were up 5-4 at first doubles.

In the singles session, Troy quickly picked up wins on the final two courts before claiming courts three and four, all in straight set. With the Trojan victory already clinched, the teams elected to play out, as the opening two courts both threatened a third set tie break. Yin Chih Lan dropped the first set 3-6 to Yeray Andres Pastor before rebounding 6-2 in the second frame to force the court to a tie break. Though each team battled for the win, Troy ultimately claimed the second court in a 10-point tie break (3-6, 6-2, 8-10). With all eyes on the opening court, now into its third set after Cowcher claimed the first frame 6-3 but dropped the second set 4-6, both the Bulldogs and the Trojans eked their way through the deciding set. After some time, Cowcher emerged victorious at first singles, defeating Nicolas Simkin 10-7.
